Kafé Blue (Kaiso Blues Café), 1D Wrightson Road, Port-of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
The nation's first criminologists were our calypsonians. Through calypso we first explored criminal causality and remedy. In the current climate, I ask you, would you rather read papers from Deosaran or bask in the thesis defense of the Calypsonian?
This Calypso History Month, come sing-a-long, laugh out loud, listen intently, and even take a lil dance as we consider crime through the eyes of the calypsonian.
October 29th, 6:00 p.m. at Kafé Blue
Tickets: $200 TTD/$30 USD

The Little Carib Theatre, Cor. White and Roberts Street, Port-of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
This is a celebration through calypso of the power of the Carnival ritual and its potential to transform our communities if properly understood and garnered. By meditating on and singing along to the musical philosophies of our calypsonians as they express the power of our Carnival rituals in rhythm and rhyme this kaiso show will play a role in reminding each of us of our own inherent communal power throughout time and space.

In Defense of Calypso is a production in which we do two things primarily - in the first instance we stand in defense of the great artform and represent it as being rich and relevant. Secondly we treat the show/calypsoes as a thesis or dissertation. That is to say, in the same way a student produces work around a chosen theme and is called upon to defend the work, we choose a theme and present it to the public as if defending a thesis. Our theme for this the sixth edition of this calypso celebration, in response to the pandemic, is SURVIVAL: Remembering Resilience.
